The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda will host, as part of the CAAST Net Plus consortium of 25 African and European government and academic organisations, a 2-day workshop in Kigali, 21-22 July 2016. The workshop will provide targeted information and guidance for early-career African researchers with a professional interest in low-carbon and renewable energy technologies and policy. The workshop will pursue a predominantly training/workshop style and structure, with opportunities for researchers to work alone and in small groups to develop their own ideas, proposal and strategies. The workshop will contain a mixed agenda with speakers from the public, private and academic sectors to provide guidance on:
- Identifying current research/knowledge priorities and gaps/needs in the energy sector, as identified by speakers representing private sector, academia, civil society and local or regional policy-makers.
- How to access relevant funding sources, where invited speakers will introduce both private and public funding sources and provide practical recommendations on how to access such funding.
- Group-based sessions where participants can seek advice and receive coaching from the speakers on specific research ideas/proposals.
We aim to gather a limited number of early-career researchers, to enable thorough and substantial group work on individual proposals. CAAST Net Plus can cover the travel and accommodation for 12 early-career academics, though participants should already have completed previous training on scientific research methods for climate change-related topics, under programmes such as DfID’s CIRCLE or similar facilities. The participants should, moreover, be able to bring specific research proposals or ideas to work on at the workshop, and these should be concerned with the energy sector.
If you are interested in attending the workshop, please contact Cecilie Larsen (firstname.lastname@example.org) at the UNEP DTU Partnership. Kindly provide a short description of your current work you would like to bring to the workshop, an overview of your previous training and experience, and what you expect to get out of the workshop (maximum 1 side of A4) together with your CV. The deadline for expression of interest is Monday 6 June 2016 at noon.
